What to Expect: First Visit/Initial Consultation

whattoexpect

Your first visit to our orthodontic office is an exciting time! It's a chance for us to get acquainted, and for you to learn about the treatments and services we offer.

You should plan to spend at least a half-hour with us this first time. That's to ensure that no one has to rush, and that you get plenty of time to ask any questions you may have. You will meet one of our receptionists or patient coordinators, who will take some information from you and bring you through the office.

This visit will include a brief evaluation and consultation with the Doctor to discuss potential treatment options. Dr. Perillo, the patient and parent will then decide whether orthodontic treatment will benefit the patient's needs.

Whether you're starting now or later, this is the best time to ask questions about the process. We can talk about available treatment choices, answer general questions about what to expect at the different stages of the process, and discuss any of the following:

Can orthodontic treatment benefit me (or my child)?
What general procedures will be used to correct the problem?
Are any options available (or recommended) for my treatment?
Should I get treatment now, or is it better to wait?
Will tooth extraction be necessary?
How much does treatment cost? Are payment plans available?
How long do you expect treatment should take?

When you leave our office, we think you'll have a better understanding of how we can help you get the best possible smile. If treatment is recommended at that time, an appointment will be made for diagnostic records. So why not take the first step now — call us for a consultation!

Diagnostic Records

The following procedures are necessary before an intelligent and efficient analysis of the patient's orthodontic problems can be made. These records are taken here at the office. They are included in the records fee of $325.00 which is deducted from the total fee at the commencement of treatment.

Digital Study Models

Digital 3D scans are taken to construct study models of the teeth. These models are used to study the problems as they exist prior to treatment. The models will be valuable in making a diagnosis and for later reference during treatment.

Dental Radiographs

Panoramic and Cephalometric images are taken. These present a composite view of the teeth and jaws. They show if the patient has the normal number of teeth, any missing teeth, extra teeth, and wisdom teeth. The progression of permanent teeth, when baby teeth are still present, is easily followed.

Facial/Intra-Oral Photographs

Frontal and lateral head photographs as well as intra-oral photographs are taken as part of the overall work-up of the case. These pictures are visual aids for profile and tooth positioning. The position of the teeth is very important to the profile. Subsequent pictures will be taken to record changes in tooth positioning when necessary. Our concern is to complete the case with straight, functional teeth and a pleasant profile. The photographs are an aid in obtaining the goal.
